YOUR HOSTS

Oceanwood was opened in April 1990
by Jonathan and Marilyn Chilvers, battle-scarred veterans of many successful years in advertising and public relations in Vancouver, although Jonathan grew up and was educated (more or less) in England.

We all wept when cancer took Marilyn
from us in early 1999, but her impeccable
taste, radiant smile and undying charm
are forever an integral part of Oceanwood.

The Founders
Jonathan may well tell you that he runs Oceanwood now.  He tends to prevaricate like that.  Here are some of the people who continue to make it a haven of peace, tranquility and good food.

SUE ATHA  When you phone us, if the voice you hear isn't Jonathan's it will almost certainly be Sue's.  She is Assistant Innkeeper, Head Housekeeper, Office Organizer, Guest Greeter and the one who does her very best to keep Jonathan from getting into trouble.  What would we do without her?  Sue's husband Dereck is a Gulf Islands Real Estate maven and a good man to see if you're property hunting.

STEVE KRUSE  Steve is originally from Stratford, Ontario, home not only of the Shakespeare Festival but of the Stratford Chef's School of which Steve is a graduate.  He has worked in Ontario, in Banff, and at Sooke Harbour House near Victoria among other places.

Steve joined Oceanwood in 2001 as sous chef and took on the responsibility of chef in 2002. Check out some of his menus by clicking on Sample Menu or on This Weeks Entrees.
